More than a week ago, we lost our co-founder, Dr. Lawrence Dorr. His CV is pages long; his accomplishments in and contributions to the field of orthopedics fill history books.
Twelve years ago, almost to the day, Total Joint Orthopedics was born. The idea was simple: our surgeon founders wanted exceptional implants with intuitive instrumentation that any surgeon could use, with one caveat: implants would be donated for use with Operation Walk and other charitable entities.
Today, we are competing with the largest orthopedics companies in the country while donating one implant for every ten we sell to Operation Walk, an organization Dr. Dorr started in 1996. This will be one of Dr. Dorr’s greatest legacies: his inspiration for Op Walk chapters around the globe to give patients the gift of mobility and the opportunity to experience work, family, and life.
While Dr. Dorr held many titles—surgeon, philanthropist, novelist, scientist, legend, family man, and friend, to name a few—he will always be our godfather. Thank you to the man who helped us get our start, and who had forgotten more about hip replacement than we will ever know about it.
