Hello! Alejandra here, I am the Administrative Assistant working behind the scenes every month to design and email our newsletter to all our wonderful supporters. I am very excited to announce that I will be taking the next step with Operation Walk this summer as an Administrative Coordinator. This new position will allow me to continue supporting our volunteer team and lead surgeons, patients, Board of Directors, and our colleagues abroad in a more involved capacity, ensuring the communication between all parties.
I will always remember my first Operation Walk trip in 2019, which was a mission at CIMEQ Hospital in Havana, Cuba. I was immediately impressed with Jeri Ward’s and Mary Ellen Sieben’s ability to coordinate everything for this beautiful humanitarian work to take place. These strong leaders handled everything from travel arrangements, to cargo shipment, patient care, and volunteer organizing, to name a few. It is a lot of work, and I have been carefully observing their tenacity all these years and learning as much as I can from their leadership to be able to support Operation Walk Los Angeles in a greater capacity.
Thanks to Operation Walk, I was able to work part-time in the office while working to complete an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California Riverside. Jeri and Mary Ellen’s support and flexibility allowed me to complete my degree, and after I graduate this summer, I will be back in the Operation Walk office full-time!
I am beyond excited to carry out this summer’s mission to Guatemala, and I am confident that our team’s lead surgeons will guide us into successful missions this year and in many years to come.
