Just two short years ago, Mylene Amor Pañares Fulgencio was an OpWalk patient who underwent bilateral hip surgery.

Last month, she volunteered to provide much-needed relief to her community after an earthquake rocked the Southern Philippines.

“I traveled to Glan, Sarangani twice. First, on June 10, we travelled an hour to transport 120 containers of water by land and were met by a pump boat (local term is bangka) because the road going to Glan proper was impassable. The supplies were received by our friends who are living in the area and were in charge of distributing containers of water to affected families. The next day, we returned and helped distribute containers of water and 5 kilos of rice to the community of Glan, for the road had become passable.”

Small deeds only but praying they may ease a little of those suffering from the destruction and help them know that this too shall pass.”

Joint replacement truly changes lives, not only for the recipients but for their communities. Thank you, Mylene, for sharing your story and for giving back to your neighbors in their time of need.
